| A visit with my Loom Knitting Friend, Anne |
Blog Notes December, 2007
I was blessed when my looming friend, Anne visted the farm after Christmas! We had
a wonderful vistit, shared looming tips and good food.
Blog Notes
June 2007
Here's a
little about my week. My day begins at daylight, as I prepare for the farmers market. I'll take eggs, Bee Balm, handmade soaps,
handspun yarn and my looms.
About our Jacobs,
I love the unique spot patterns, their beautiful fleece,
and that they are easy keepers for novice shepherds. (me!!)
Jacobs are
pretty rare in thes parts! There are fewer than 8,000 of these sheep in America. (There's probably close to
that number of Suffolks in our county. That's the #1 sheep in these parts)
Next, week
the butcher will visit our farm. I sell the meat to local customers or stock my freezer. He will skin the animals. Eventually
I will process the hides to make sheepskins. Our Jacobs are one of a kind, so each sheepskin has a different pattern.
It's shearing
time and time to wash wool, card it and prepare it for spinning. Sometimes, we send it out to a mill. Last year, we sent it
to Kansas, to Shepherd's Mill. they did a fantastic job
of making roving and spinning yarn for us. We have both to sell in our farm boutique.
We entered
the fair last year for the first time and won a bunch of ribbons for our yarn! What a thrill!
And, of
course, I loom some! I love looming our yarn. Soft socks & scarves, tea cozies, hats and baby things! Sweet!
Blessings
for your day,
Lynn
